Radiocracy: local radio & democracy

On the 23rd of July I had the chance to visit Northampton (England) to participate in a European youth exchange project named ‘Radiocracy’. This project was aimed at developing radio skills and content from local governments and train young people on how to produce and spread radio content in their localities. The goal of this attempt was to improve youth awareness on how different democratic systems work. The teams consisted of five participants from Cyprus, England and France.

Each group had a ‘leader’ with experience and involvement in radio. The members of my team (Cyprus) were Andreas Rocopos, Evie Hartsioti, Antonia Filippou, Christiana Palaonta and our leader Dr. Mike Hadjimichael. The first part of the project started in France, then continued in Cyprus and finished in England. I only had the chance to participate to the trip in England. On their staying in Cyprus members from the three groups decided to create a song, in French and English language with the help of Med Dred. Continue reading

Why You Should Join The Communications Society! It’s Not Too Late, Join Us Tomorrow!

As a Communications student and a Mediazone Lab Assistant, I have come to realize how many opportunities we can create for ourselves here at the University of Nicosia but for some reason no one is attempting to do so which is why it all changes here!

At the beginning of the semester a fellow student/lab assistant and myself came up with one idea, to bring the Communications Society back to life. Our mission is to create a 5 minute show with announcements, news, updates, reminders and in general entertainment related topics, all to do with the University. Continue reading

Updating Datavideo SE-3000 Vision Mixer – Procedure

Datavideo SE-30000 Vision Mixer

Datavideo SE-30000 Vision Mixer

Although Datavideo provides a detailed tutorial on how to update the firmware of SE-3000, there are problems you could face during the updating procedure. After a discussion I had with Datavideo Service dept. & Tech. Product support, they mentioned to me a few points that are not recorded in their tutorial.

In case you try to update from an earlier version like V0.9 to V1.0.1 or V1.02 it is better to disconnect the main frame and controller (CAT5 cable) during the update. This is very important because if you try to update using Datavideo tutorial you may receive a critical error in the Control Panel which says: “Application Se3000 Panel.exe encountered a serious error and must shut down”. Reservation System major upgrade

Reservations SystemI am glad to announce to you that the upgrading of the Mediazone Reservation System is coming to an end. We have upgraded many parts of the code in order to provide system stability and a greater user experience. The biggest upgrade is the interconnection of our login/authentication procedures with the ones of the University Data Base. This means that whenever a student changes any detail (name, address, tel, email or password) in his/her Student Intranet, they take immediate effect on our system (in the previous version, the changes needed 24 hours to be applied). This allows us to deliver better notification messages to our students and inform them better about their bookings and their reservation status. Continue reading
