The Power of Progress
Balancing Academia and Practical Experience: My Journey at Mediazone.
Building lifelong connections and friendships
But is that all it entails? Before diving deeper, let me introduce myself. My name is Aria, and I am one of the most introverted people you will ever meet. Socializing, working in teams, and meeting new people have never been easy for me. When I joined Mediazone, I quickly realized one thing: communication was unavoidable. At first, this caught me off guard. You might find it ironic, given that Mediazone is at the heart of the Communications department, but I genuinely did not expect to interact with people as much as I did. By the time I realized how vital communication was here, it was already too late, so here we are!

My Journey with Mediazone
Being in Mediazone has lent me experiences and skills I thought I couldn’t achieve. The first thing I learned when I entered Mediazone is that achievement and comparison aren’t with you and others, but it’s you versus yourself. This idea allowed me to see myself gradually increase in learning skills quicker and become more knowledgeable in what I know.
In my first year, I started as a volunteer in Mediazone. As a volunteer, you soak up all the information, trying to observe all the skills they teach you. It’s also the best time to dig in deep with all the equipment, which gives you more freedom to find your weak spots and work on them as much as you want. Being a volunteer helped me get a lot of advice from all the other Studio assistants around me, who helped me become comfortable with the environment and what could eventually be my responsibilities.
My student experience! A busy semester at University of Nicosia
Fall 2013, lessons started on the 30th of October.
I was very excited about my new start since it is my 2nd year! The courses that I have selected this semester are Video Production and Multimedia which are practical courses, Newswriting , Film and Public Relations Methods which are theoretical courses. Lets not forget Mediazone Lab Assistant Training!
The first 2 weeks, professors gave us an introduction about the subjects, showed us the themes, the equipment and actually what is going to follow this semester. At the end of October we had our first midterm. The material that the teacher examined us on was based on understanding the first steps of the introduction, which was easy. At the same time, we had to submit 2 essays in one week (2 different lessons). Continue reading
