Foley in a Day – Building a Basic Soundscape

Have you ever watched a film and wondered how the tiniest sounds, such as footsteps, doors creaking, drizzling rain, and creaking floors, somehow feel real? That’s the magic of Foley. Simply put, Foley is one of the core techniques in sound design, where every day noises are recreated to enhance the atmosphere and impact of a scene. And for this blog, we got to dive into it ourselves. Continue reading

Pre-Production Saves Post-Production: A Live Event Lesson

I was covering the Music Vibes party with my friend and colleague Elina who was directing and editing the video for the event. My role was lead camera operator for the night. I prepared a brief shot list that did not have enough details because I thought I could rely on instinct more than preparation.

My Relationship with Time Management!

When we were told to write a blog about a mistake we had made, I didn’t know what to write about because, over my time here with Mediazone, I had made so many small mistakes here and there and didn’t know which one to cover. But then I realized their common denominator …. time management! So, I’ve decided to tell you guys the mistakes I tend to make and how I’m fixing them.

Mediazone: Student Volunteers from half way around the world!

My career path has always been influenced by what I enjoy, but also by doubts and uncertainty about my skills when it comes to the real world. How to get a Cinematic Look with just a Tripod

When people hear the term “cinematic shot,” they often picture smooth slider or dolly movements. However, for me, it is quite the opposite. I find beauty in static tripod shots. They allow you to truly capture a moment, creating a calm atmosphere that encourages viewers to relax and observe what unfolds on screen. That’s why I was excited to write this blog, I knew I would enjoy sharing my approach to achieving a cinematic look with minimal equipment.

Fresh Start: Mediazone. New people, new experiences, new lifestyle.

The Power of Progress

When I first joined Mediazone, I was filled with uncertainty. My confidence was low, weighed down by a rough period in my personal life, and I was honestly scared. I did not think I had what it took to succeed on the team. Watching everyone around me fulfill their roles with ease made me wonder if I would ever find my place. But looking back now, I am amazed at how far I have come, not just in developing my technical skills, but in growing as a person with newfound confidence and resilience. This journey, though filled with challenges, has been incredibly rewarding, and has pushed me further than I ever thought possible.

Balancing Academia and Practical Experience: My Journey at Mediazone.

As a master’s student in Digital Art and Design at the University of Nicosia, my academic journey has been a dynamic blend of creativity, technology, and critical thinking. Courses like Digital Publishing and Digital Culture, Innovation, and Technology have pushed me to explore innovative concepts and dive deeper into the world of digital media. However, my education goes beyond the classroom. My role as a Studio Assistant at Mediazone has been the perfect complement—a space where theory meets practice, and creativity comes to life. At Mediazone, I’ve immersed myself in audiovisual production and multimedia storytelling. Operating professional equipment like Sony, Lumix, and Canon cameras, experimenting with lighting setups, and troubleshooting audio gear have been invaluable hands-on experiences. Adapting to different setups or solving technical challenges, whether adjusting lighting for the perfect shot or resolving audio issues moments before a shoot, has pushed me to grow.
