Mediazone University of Nicosia is a Media support center and is located at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus, main campus. It is the audio-visual hub of the university, a producer of media, also tasked with the care and maintenance of the state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and facilities.
Mediazone is an integral part of the University of Nicosia, offering comprehensive support for staff, students, and various academic programs. Mediazone assumes the responsibility and support for all of the facilities and equipment utilized by the Communications and Design and Multimedia Departments; including their respective academic practical courses for the University of Nicosia.
With the dedication of experienced professionals and Studio Assistants participation, students on scholarship, Mediazone has evolved into the go-to resource center for practical course needs; assisting with course needs from students and faculty, producing events and other media-related marketing activities, encouraging commitment and empowerment to students to excel in their chosen fields.
Mediazone’s full time staff includes the Head of Mediazone / an Audio-Visual Support Technician / a Facilities and Operations Coordinator, and an Administrative Assistant.

John Ioannou lived in Toronto Canada for most of his life, moving to Cyprus in 2006. As a Television Director he has worked for over 12 years in the largest private Cable Television Station in Canada as well as other American station affiliates, in a variety of show formats. He has worked in both film and television for over 18 years in Canada in a variety of capacities, including Director, Directors Assistant and Editor.
As a Director here in Cyprus his experience includes television series and a variety of other live and formatted shows. He has had experiences in teaching privately in a number of special subject areas and was involved in giving workshops and seminars for broadcast professionals across the island. He took part for over ten years on “Degrassi Street”, an Emmy Award Winning television series shown in over 60 countries around the world, (including Cyprus) as a professional actor.
He is a practical hands-on kind of person, with hobbies that include photography and vintage lenses. He firmly believes that technology in the field of media is just as important as creativity, and students should be at the centre of it all!
Marios Tziakouris is an Interactive Creative Director with a Graphic/Web/Multimedia Design background and a passion for new media, (Fluent in Greek, English, & Italian). His studies across the Mediterranean earned him Diplomas in both Nicosia Cyprus and Florence Italy – where he worked for a year in the media industry.
His wealth of technical training and software knowledge has given him the ability to easily integrate new media technologies while maintaining his creative talent. His continuing training in London based on advanced techniques in After Effects has allowed him to expand creativity in motion effects and graphics. He has been able to execute large scale projects such as TedX Unic under pressure with great results!
Currently his work involves mostly maintaining the University’s corporate image. He designs and delivers everything from brochures, logos, multimedia presentations, video clips with motion graphics, illustrations, website banners and products related to the University’s ongoing outreach and image; including original graffiti and concepts for University sponsored public service announcements for charity. The positive attitude he maintains allows him to state with confidence, “If I don’t know it, I’ll learn it”. He has been with Mediazone since 2005.
