Racism

It was Tuesday and my first day at the University of Nicosia. My first lesson was “Introduction to Communication Studies”. When we started analysing the first chapter, the lecturer started with this sentence: “A human is born to communicate, we don’t have other choice because nobody can’t afford the loneliness”.

So from this simple opinion, I started thinking “What about racism?”. Automatically I remembered a subject that we did when I was a student in high school about the Second World War. The main point that we easily understood from this remarkable chapter of world history, is that hatred generated by the German 3rd Reich was rooted in the inability to accept differences, like colour, religion, origin, people with handicaps etc. The end of this horrible situation was the deliberate death of 6 million people. Cyprus International Film Festival, 18-28/10/13

Θα προβληθούν συνολικά 80 ταινίες μεγάλου και μικρού μήκους, ανεξάρτητες παραγωγές από 26 χώρες, από τις 18-28 Οκτωβρίου στις αίθουσες UNESCO και CINE STUDIO στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας. Οι προβολές είναι με ελεύθερη είσοδο 5μμ-8μμ στην αίθουσα UNESCO, ενώ στο CINE STUDIO προβάλλονται δύο ταινίες μεγάλου μήκους καθημερινά 8μ.μ. και 10μ.μ. με ημερήσιο εισιτήριο 5 ευρώ. H κάρτα γενικής εισόδου στοιχίζει 25 ευρώ. Οι ξενόγλωσσες ταινίες έχουν ελληνικούς υπότιτλους.

A showing of 80 long and short films, which will be independent productions from 26 countries, starting from the 18th-28th of October and will take place at UNESCO and CINE STUDIO at the University of Nicosia. The entrance for short film screenings is free,  from 5pm-8pm in UNESCO,  while  two long films which will take place in the CINE STUDIO from 8pm-10pm daily,with a €5.00 entrance. A 25Euro- all -screenings pass for CINE STUDIO is also available. English speaking films will be shown with greek subtitles.
