The importance of logos in our lives

Posted On January 23, 2013 By admin In Studio Assistants Blog /

Logo. A simple word which has a huge meaning. How would our life be without logos? How are we supposed to recognize each company, every organization or any other organized groups purpose without the existence of logos?

Logos are created by artists in cooperation with organization’s executives in order to indicate the organization’s identity in a graphic form and introduce it to the audience. Every organization needs its logo in order to promote the products or services that they offer. Logos help companies to gain instant public recognition.

There are a lot of factors taken into consideration before the actual logo is created such as organization’s name, aim, purpose of existence, target audience and more. Taking these factors in mind organizations tend to create logos with fancy colors in order to attract the public’s attention and to be broadly known.

Logos can be created out of different typographic fonts, objects, animals or even ancient symbols. What is the more important though, is not to offend anyone meaning culture, ethnicity, religion or any other ethical aspects because your organizations name will automatically lose its credit, recognition and liability. Moreover, logos should not be copied or steeled as they run the risk of getting sued.

This is why creating logos is hard and demands artistic creativity. A catchy logo might have a massive effect on people’s buying preferences.

The most important fact about logos that got my attention has to do with Nike.  Carolyn Davidson who was the actual logo creator of “The Nike Swoosh” received just $35 dollars back in 1971 as an exchange for her services. Think about it; $35 dollars for a logo of a company that became worldwide known for its sports products and equipment and has had and still has billions of dollars of income made out of sales.

Of course, nowadays logo designers are paid more but their payment always depends on the organizations budget and potential.

Having said that, I should probably start practicing my Photoshop and graphic skills in case someday I am asked to design a logo. Who knows, I could leave my mark in history as Carolyn Davidson did.
