“Cut Short”: Holocaust Remembrance Event
Strovolos Municipal Theater, Nicosia
Organised by the Nicosia Christian Center under the auspices of the Israeli Embassy in Cyprus, the 2015 Holocaust Remembrance was the third such event to be held in Cyprus. As in previous years, the 2015 Remembrance Event consisted of speeches by various local and foreign dignitaries alternating with artistic performances that, in some way, reflected upon the tragedy of the Holocaust and our hope that it will never be repeated.
The evening culminated with a touching first-hand story from living Holocaust survivor, Artemis Miron. Several of the artistic performances featured faculty and students from the University of Nicosia’s Department of Music and Dance, including a computer music and video composition by Charis Sophocleous; a choreography by Alexander Michael, performed by UNic dance faculty; and the University of Nicosia Jazz Choir, directed by Alice Ayvazian.
