Sport Cams

Posted On November 22, 2012 By admin In Studio Assistants Blog /

If you are one of those people who want to record action moments in your life, skating, track, trails, mountains, sky, speed or even under water HD quality, then this is what you need. A Sports Camera.

Sports cams are small cameras, which are mainly used for point of view (POV), in active lifestyles such as recording of riding bicycles, motorbikes or any other similar activities. Technology growth has helped to achieve great changes in this camera. There are different brands and also different kinds of sports cameras which are designed for different activities. One of the main companies is “Gopro” and the second is “Kodak”. Each brand has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Gopro hero

The Wi-Fi enabled HERO3: Black Edition is the most advanced GoPro. No expense was spared during its development, according to its official website resulting in “GoPro is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and 2x more powerful than previous models. Wearable and gear mountable, waterproof to 197′ (60m), it is also capable of capturing ultra-wide 1440p 48fps, 1080p 60 fps and 720p 120 fps video and 12MP photos at a rate of 30 photos per second.”

The Gopro HERO3: Black Edition is a more flexible camera than other similar versions such as the Kodak play sport. The Hero 3 built-in Wi-Fi, GoPro App compatibility and the included Wi-Fi Remote (normally a separate $79.99 accessory) and is not included.

This makes the HERO3: Black Edition all the more versatile, still. But I wouldn’t prefer to buy a camera and then spend other $80 for accessories like water proof or some other necessary parts. Gopro Hero3 allows you to record under deep water but you need to buy the water proof case separately. Also you can add another Gopro next to it and record 3D.

Kodak play sport also records 720p HD and 120 fps but the disadvantage of this camera is that it is shaky. A sport cam shouldn’t be shaky because this is the purpose of getting a sports cam. Also it has limitations on the distance it can go underwater, a depth of 10 meters. The good thing with Kodak Play sport is that it has everything on it you need and you are not required to buy external accessories for it; for example it is waterproofed along with the screen and there are some other accessories that come with the camera. With all of this it is still slightly cheaper than Gopro. Also with “Kodak play sport” you can get shots from different angles; for example you can film yourself while skating, or you can shoot from left or right angles because it’s also handheld and as an additional advantage, the screen view which allows you to see what scenes you are shooting.

Personally I would prefer the Kodak play sport which has almost the same quality in video but most importantly is that it has everything on it and included with it. However if I would want to make a professional video with very good quality, Gopro is what I would choose regardless of its price, which is more expensive than Kodak play sport.

We usually don’t like to spend lots of money for a camera which mostly would be used for fun rather than professional video making.
