For most people who are enthusiastic about video production it may not come as a shock to know that it is one of the most expensive fields to get into as an independent. Equipment is not cost effective at all as the rate of technology change and turnover is high. There are a million sources on the internet for DIY video equipment projects. Here are just a few:

Well at least you can check lighting off your list, as obtaining and creating DIY lighting is the easiest. For high powered key lights, the main source of light, you can buy a halogen work light. This emits a very bright light and can go upwards of 1000watts. The light can be controlled by some diffusion. At a distance of minimum 2 meters away you can even setup a bed sheet in front of the light. Of course bouncing the light off of a white wall or ceiling will help with cutting down the lights intensity.
A movable arm desk lamp can create some great adjustable lighting. You can find bulbs that range from warm to cool temperatures at a variety of watts to suit almost any indoor situation. These could act as great fill lights.
Any light source on a dimmer is ideal for control and shaping of lighting situations. So for less than 80 euro you can create some great lighting and lighting moods. My favorite is the Cucoloris. Just use a piece of cardboard, and you can create some great mood lighting! That’s what I did!
*Always remember that safety comes first and all light sources generate heat. So careful when coming into contact with bare skin, please wear gloves and never cover up a light source for fire & safety reasons.
