The perfect slow motion movement: Twixtor

Posted On May 30, 2014 By admin In Studio Assistants Blog /

Have you ever wondered how they successfully achieve  that perfect slow motion movement in most movies? Well as I was searching on the Web to find the answer I ended up to an effect / plugin called ‘Twixtor’. Twixtor is a plug-in for After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut, Vegas, Avid, and many more non linear editors and compositors. When you usually try to adjust the speed duration of a clip in your composition you don’t get the same results as the 2 videos below. This happens because when you change the speed from the software you are using, it will only accomplish the following:

1) cut some frames when increase the speed and

2) repeat frames when you slow down.

The Twixtor effect will blend the next frames with a smart way by analysing your footage so you can get that smooth movement. I tried using this effect for the first time (see video 1 and 2) and it works pretty well. There are still some mistakes in the videos but from them you can view them as examples and hopefully learn from them.

I hope I have shed some light behind fast motion and slow motion, and also hope Twixtor will help you with your future projects.
