If you are in the market for a tv, then you should do two things. Wait, and save up some money. Okay, a lot of money!
LED televsions are going to enjoy a shorter stay then expected, as we move over to the next real staple of television viewing technology. It is not just the next evolution – but a revolution! When you compare LED & OLED the choice is obvious. OLED is lighter, plastic not glass, thinner (paper thin!), flexible, brighter, more responsive, has better contrast, more vibrant colors, deeper blacks, consumes less power, and has a larger field of view. But they are also a lot more sensitive to humidity and water, and don’t last as long. OLED has been around for a number of years, but research and development has been meticulous, and products few and far between.
OLED is not just for televisions as it expands into the areas of mobiles, tablets and laptops. It is a revolution because it unteathers the design element from unescessary bulky glass, and gives designers the ability to add more intelligent components on the inside. It is one of the last steps of condensing and streamlining the art of the television viewing experience.
The big contenders are Samsung and LG, although many others will eventually follow, like Sony & Panasonic. Samsung wants to be first in this pioneering entertainment domain. It follows the same line of Smart Tvs that Samsung has been producing and packs the Tv with apps and software galore!
The new Samsung 55 inch ES900 boasts, …” smart interaction technologies including remote control, voice control, motion control and face recognition (it includes a camera). It features a Smart Evolution upgradeable dual-core CPU and Dual-View technology (enables two different 2D programs via the active-shutter 3D glasses). Samsung says that color reproduction is 20% better compared to LED LCDs, but they wouldn’t reveal more technical details…”source: http://www.oled-info.com/samsung-es9500 This television will be available in the next 6 months or so.
Did I mention the price? Well that is a bit on the downside; 5,500 euro could be considered a negative for most people. It will eventually come down in the next few years, like all new technology does. It is the price for staying current and owning the latest & greatest! For those fortunate enough, they will welcome the world of “Star Trek” into there homes, where reality is finally catching up to science fiction.
